Quick Overview

Graha (from Sanskrit) is a 'cosmic influencer' on the living beings of mother Bhumidevi (earth). In Hindu Astrology, the Navagraha (nine planets or nine realms) are some of these major influencers.

The Sanskrit word captures the idea that these nine grahas are living energies which put out waves of energy. These waves of energy affect our awareness. This indicates the active power of these celestial energies to seize our consciousness when we come under their influence or to take hold of what we focus on.

The Navagraha are personified as celestial beings and worshipped as nine important deities of the Hindu religious tradition. They are Surya, Chandra, Angaraka, Budha, Guru, Sukra, Sani, Rahu and Ketu. They stand for nine planets, the English equivalents of the first seven being, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. The last two, Rahu and Ketu are planet-like entities, unique to the Hindu tradition. All these planets have been celebrated and worshipped in sloka and stotra, in sculpture and music. Sloka is a Sanskrit word used to denote a prayerful verse written as per certain strict grammatical rules. Listen to the Navagraha slokas set to music by Sanjeevlal and sung by Chitra and join their navagraha worship to minimize negative influences and to boost up positive influences of the nine planets.
